2nd Grade Art 2017-8
Students in 2nd grade above, researched jellyfish on National Geographic Kids, and watched a video from Monterey Bay Aquarium Institute. We practiced drawing 10 - 12 different kinds of jellyfish. We then drew them with heavy crayon, and washed them with watercolor. For a final touch we added glitter glue. Some of our questions included: How do we draw jellyfish to look like they are floating? How do we show bio luminescence in our jellyfish? How can I make a jellyfish look 3D?We worked with Mrs. Lemen in music class to learn and sing about, and create jellyfish.
Students researched jellyfish on National Geographic Kids during art to gather ideas for our jellyfish project. We learned about bio luminescence, and that jellyfish have no heart or brain, and are 95% water. Students were very excited to use their chromebooks in art class! We drew 10-12 jellyfish on practice paper, selected our favorites, and drew them again on large paper with bright crayons. The paper was washed with watercolors in blue, green and purple to resemble the ocean. We added glitter glue to show bio luminescence!
2nd Grade Art 2016-17
This project is called Me And My Shadow. Students looked at themselves in a mirror, and noticed details in their face, especially our eyes. We started learning how to draw the face, then neck, arms, body and legs. It was a challenge but from that we learned that sketches help us improve and give us a growth mindset.
