3rd Grade Art 2017-18
Our first project in third grade was to design a costume for a dog or cat. This project involved a good amount of planning and revising, problem solving and divergent thinking to combine pieces to create a whole. Once the projects were complete, and hanging in the hallway, students, teachers and visitors gathered to look and laugh at these adorable creations. An unexpected outcome of this project was to observe students who finished helping others. with Creekmoor character This project kept me multitasking and I regret there was no time to take pictures of the students working.
Below, students reviewed land formations, and created paper patterns to plan the fiber landscape with foreground, middle ground and background. We learned about aerial perspective that uses light, color and space to organize darker colors in the foreground moving to lighter towards that background. With our plan, we cut, layered, and glued pieces of fabric from interior decorator sample books. The students were proud of these beautiful scenes. Students added twigs with imitation moss, fence pieces or rocks.

Students worked on a STEAM project with owls. I developed 4 panels for their research: Where Do Owls Live? Owls At Night, All About Owls, and Owl Super Senses. Students worked in groups with specific jobs to answer questions from each panel in their booklet, students illustrated their owl booklet, students watched live owl cams (we saw a baby barn owl hatch!), we read owl stories, and we made a clay owl.Students were very engaged throughout this project. It was a lot of fun!
