APRIL 2014 4TH GRADE FIELD TRIP TO NELSON ATKINS MUSEUM OF ART IN KANSAS CITY
In the Asian galleries, students were asked to draw their favorite piece, use descriptive words to explain the piece of art, and select from a grab bag of questions to look deeper into the art work.
In the Impressionist gallery, students looked at one of our favorites, Waterlillies, by Claude Monet. Students were given slips of paper with a question mark (HMMMM what is this?) or exclamation mark (WOW this one is awesome!) groups, and roamed the gallery to place it in front of the art work they selected. Each student had a turn to express their questions or provide comments about each piece of art work selected.
APRIL 2014 CREEKMOOR ELEMENTARY ART SHOW
4th grade students explored the modern art work of Wayne Thiebaud (pronounced Tee-bow), and copied his cakes with oil pastel to explore a new drawing medium and also perspective.
3rd grade students learned about the genre STILL LIFE, and explored ways to tint and shade using acrylic paint, very small brushes, and mini canvases.
3rd grade students explored the genre of LANDSCAPE with watercolor. We worked on a variety of learning targets, including using foreground, middle ground and background, using multiple drawing and painting tools in art, and identifying multiple solutions in creating art work.
3rd grade students combined two learning targets: I can create a weaving using a loom, and I can create a slab with clay. We also explored texture with various types of yarn and surface design in the clay, and the repetition of color to create visual interest.
1st grade students learned how to use their hands as tools to manipulate clay. I love how the theme is the same, but all pandas look different.
We watched two baby pandas on live cam at the San Diego zoo learn how to walk, play and climb. They were a constant source of excitement
for us during this project.
